Extensions are a brilliant way to maximise space, and that's exactly what we did at this Stratford-upon-Avon job! And it turned out incredibly well.
The property originally had a conservatory on the side of the house which was underused and was beginning to feel dated. With a new addition to the family, usable space was really important to the clients. The first step for this Stratford-Upon-Avon project was to deconstruct the conservatory and lay preparations for the new extension.
Groundworks were undertaken to ensure proper footings and foundations were prepared for the two storey extension. We worked within the original floor plan of the conservatory after initial assessment and surveying. This stage did not take as long as it normally would as we had a startpoint in place that we worked from, so very quickly we were on to the initial construction of the lower floor of the extension.
Having selected brickworks to match the existing property and fuelled by many cups of tea, we made steady progress. Scaffolding was brought in to allow us to continue up to the second floor. A reconfiguration of the windows was required, large bifold doors were to be installed on the first floor with a secondary window and, as the second story was to be a master bedroom with ensuite bathroom, we went for a triple window in the main room to maximise natural light and a smaller single window in the ensuite. The bifold doors looked really impressive and added a touch of drama with their rich black surround.
The exterior of the two storey extension was in keeping with the existing property and the surrounding homes. Leading out from the original conservatory was a small patio area, we replaced this with a new paved area laid in varying sizes which looked beautiful and linked the bifold door of the extension to the side door of the house.
When it came to the interior of the extension we installed all new fittings and electrics including a vertical radiator in a matte black to match the bifold doors. The client needed the first floor of the extension to have dual purpose as both a home office and a space to relax and unwind. With an ever growing family, having a space that could be shut off from the rest of the home for when work needed to be done and then opened up to relax and chill was key, we achieved this by installing internal double doors between the extension and the family living room. These doors were chosen in glass because of the fact that they let the natural light stream through into the family living room and it also meant that when the room was being used as an office, privacy and quiet could be achieved without being completely cut off. Styled with elegant white walls and furnishings with built in high gloss storage cupboards, warmth was added with a country oak style wood effect floor.
On the second floor, we created a spacious ensuite with a modern shower unit sink and toilet. Large white glossy tiles adorn the shower unit and follow through the bottom half of the room.
This two storey extension in Stratford Upon Avon was a massive success and the client was really happy with the end result! it has really added value to the property as well as improving the way the space of the home worked for family life.
