Alfresco Entertaining Area Stratford Upon Avon

At KSW Developments we really enjoy when something a little unusual lands in our project book and thi Alfresco Entertaining Area was just that! We were lucky enough to design the space in conjunction with the clients, it was really enjoyable to work together to create their dream space, hearing their ideas and providing out expert advice and suggestions was a brilliant process and we think the end result shows how well this collaboration worked!

We were tasked with creating a really stylish and contemporary outdoor space which could be used all year round...a challenge when you think of how changeable the British weather can be!

The project began with us preparing the ground at the rear of the property and digging footings ready for the external walls. Much of this early process was the same as if we were building a full extension. This Alfresco entertaining area may not be as enclosed as an extension but it is solid and will withstand the elements whilst being connected to the main home!

Brickwork was completed pretty swiftly so our carpenters could get to work on the framing for the structure. We wanted the area to be shielded for the elements but not to feel like it was separate from the outdoors so the frontage would remain open and the enclosed walls on the side would feature large windows to optimise the natural light. We continued this through the roof too, velux windows were installed in the gently sloping aspect of the roof to maximise light and to allow additional air flow in the summer.

To maintain a feeling of nature, treated wooden cladding was used on the internal walls and the flooring in cream and warm grey tones. We also left some of the beautiful framing exposed to provide contrast. Internal glazing sported a sharp white edging and externally edging was finished in a modern deep grey which looks stunning against the brickwork.

LGW Electrical did an absolutely amazing job wiring up the whole space with outdoor security lighting, heater lamps and spotlights which create an ambient glow.

We have created many outdoor spaces but this is something like no other. There is a real cohesion between the main home and the outdoor space, it really feels like it transitions as one. Indoor/outdoor living is a great way of utilising space and is incredibly popular in countries with stable weather so designing this space to work no matter what the MET office throws at us was a really interesting and creative process. All the materials used are incredibly hardy and set to withstand the wind and rain, yet the shape and use of windows and velux will allow for a perfect balance of shade and natural light in the summer (not to mention airflow!) the super smart heater lamps throw out some impressive heat considering how small and inconspicuous they are….perfect for the winter or chilly evenings! Plus there are ample electrical outlets to allow for all manner of entertainment, string lights and anything requiring mains access to be utilised effectively and neatly without dangerous and unsightly extension cables.
