Extension & Kitchen Design & Fit in Kenilworth

KSW Developments never back down from a challenge, and this extension, kitchen design and fit in Kenilworth certainly was a challenge! to create the extension that the clients had dreamed of we needed to undertake structural work on the house, removing an entire corner of the house!

The first phase of this project was to complete the groundworks for the sizeable wraparound extension. The ground was prepared and footings went in after some garden clearance of the large Conifer hedgerow. External brickwork and internal blocking began before the deconstruction of the existing outer walls of the property.

The next phase was to carefully deconstruct the lower level external wall that pre-existed at the property to open up the new extension to the existing kitchen area. Supports and beams were installed as we progressed and the care which was required meant that progress was steady and highly technical. With the walls of the extension built, we set to the task of constructing the gentle pitch roof in preparation for the installation of the velux skylights and incredible bi-fold doors. A magnificent 6 panel bifold door was installed in the rear of the extension leading to the garden allowing for basically the entire side of the building to open up. Finished in a deep, rich matte black, the bi-fold doors create a touch of drama and create a designer impact.

The extension created ample additional space to provide a stunning entertainment area and open plan kitchen. We designed a galley style kitchen area featuring cabinets and sink space to follow down the outside edge wall, punctuated by the large skylight above. A secondary space was created with a huge american style fridge freezer and dual eye-level ovens all surrounded by cabinets and storage space. The pièce de résistance is the grand island featuring seating space at one end and a built in induction stove top and under counter cabinets. Throughout the kitchen, a deep charcoal grey features across all the cabinets which has a richness which almost appears navy in certain lights. The elegance of the deep tone is brought out with brushed chrome handles and a smoked oak effect floor throughout. Geometric tiling was added along the unit edges which sets off the striking white worktops of both the galley kitchen and island. A modern take on shaker cabinets were used throughout with angular lines and contemporary fittings which creates a beautiful minimalist kitchen which is welcoming and allows the beauty of outdoors to flow through into the space. Vertical radiators were installed throughout which adds an architectural feel to what would oftentimes feel like a dull necessity.

We mounted a large flatscreen TV on the feature wall of the entertaining area of the extension and installed spotlights throughout. This extension turned out brilliantly and each element came together even better than we had envisioned. The finish of the extension is extremely high class, which we always deliver but in this instance we were all a little envious of how it turned out! We hope the clients enjoy their new space for years to come and especially in the summer with the doors open drawing the space into the garden and allowing natural light throughout the home.
