This was a garage conversion like no other! Here at KSW we enjoy a creative solution to make the best use of space, and the clients for this conversion share our vision for high-end, value-added redesigns.
To begin this ambitious project, we inserted two 6m steels in the existing trussed roof to support a new floor allowing us to create a second storey space for an additional bedroom/office. From there, we faced the challenge of cutting out the roof section, installing supports as we went along. A new section for a staircase was created and working alongside the clients inspiration for the space, we installed new velux windows in the roof to allow for an open and light feel to the space.
To make full use of this area, a bathroom was fitted upstairs which presented us with an exciting opportunity to install the smallest bathroom we have worked with to date! We designed the bathroom to function in the bijou roof-space, working with the pitch of the ceiling and interesting angles to accommodate all the mod-cons without sacrificing on design and style. Although this is a small bathroom, the space itself feels much more expansive because of the choice of tile, lighting from the velux windows, and creative storage solutions.
Connecting the upstairs of the garage conversion to the main house, we constructed a corridor allowing for free movement between the living spaces. Below the office/bedroom, the original garage was fitted-out to become a painfully cool entertaining space featuring a pool table. I think we can all agree that this is an excellent use of a defunct garage and adds a really interesting feature to the property which also brings a real sense of enjoyment back into the living space. This concept is something that is often forgotten about when planning redesigns and extensions - your home is a place for rest, relaxation and entertainment which can be creatively expressed in the way a space is constructed.
Having worked with the clients back in 2016 on their original two storey extension, we developed a good rapport and understanding of what their vision was for the final project. With this in mind, we installed all new electrics throughout the space and fitted all the woodwork to fit in with the concept they presented to us. The finish on this project is sleek and stylish whilst remaining playful and utilising the available space. As a final flourish, we added two, beautiful, heavy Oak external doors which provide a level of security not always experienced in your standard garage conversion. The addition of the external doors tie the new garage conversion in with the feel of the rest of the house and give a luxurious finish overall.
There is a certain satisfaction to working on a project such as this, with unique elements and creative designs. Working with repeat clients to continue their home improvements is always a pleasure and we look forward to the next venture!
