Kitchen extensions are a great way to optimise the use of space in your home, this extension in Shipston-on-Stour does just that!
KSW Developments faces every challenge head on and with this project we were thrown a curveball early on in the process. During groundworks it was discovered that we would need to pile the footings which added some complications as this was unexpected. We rose to the occasion though and in no time at all we were back on track with the footings. The foundations, damp course membrane and screed were all constructed pretty quickly meaning that before we knew it we were onto blocks and brickwork!
Windows were installed in the gable end of the extension and in the side as well as a skylight on the opposing side, we wanted to ensure that the extension felt light and airy all year round. The extension's exterior was designed to be an exact match to the exterior of the main home, with lintels, cladding and roofing to match perfectly. A door giving access to the garden was installed and the client opted for one with a large window pane to really enhance the light into the room.
Once the external construction was complete, the team at KSW Developments worked their magic on the interior of the extension. All the plumbing and electrics were installed to a high level allowing for the space to be transformed into a stunning kitchen/utility room.
Making clever use of the space, we were able to include a lot of storage and worktop space without it feeling at all cramped or busy. A oak/walnut and cream theme was established throughout with modern shaker style kitchen cabinets and wooden countertops in a rich walnut/oak finish. The floor was finished in a light stone effect tile which added warmth and texture to the room whilst also adhering to the bright, airy feel.
The utility room was set back from the kitchen allowing for a door to close away the chores whilst the family could enjoy the kitchen space without the interruptions of the washing machine/tumble dryer. The utility room was completed with the same units and worktops to match the kitchen.
Modern fittings were installed throughout with chrome elements and stylish modern handles. As well as the striking work surfaces, the double eye-height oven and warming drawer is a real focal point to this kitchen, and touches like a fitted fridge freezer hidden behind cabinet doors really add to a cohesive kitchen design and a feeling of clean, modern, open living. Floating overhead cabinets make great use of vertical space and allow for increased storage, we particularly like the inclusion of the glass fronted cabinet to show off prized items.
All in all, this kitchen extension in Shipston-on-Stour was a great success and the clients were thrilled with the outcome, as were we! We finished off the project with some light landscaping around the new extension so it seamlessly fits in with the home and garden, looking like it was always a part of the family home.
